Introduction to Literary Analysis
An introduction to literary terms and forms: short story, narrative poetry, plot, imagery, symbolism, theme, setting. Class goals include analyzing individual authors and their works, understanding and mastering grammar rules in order to improve composition, and learning how to write basic literary analyses. Texts include The Call of the Wild, Alice in Wonderland, The Screwtape Letters, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Animal Farm. Every year I get the same question: are there really 27 books on the reading list? Yes. Yes, there are.
Not to worry. Several of the titles are short stories. I promise. A few others will be excerpts only. And all of them--all of them-- will be worth it!
